Cannabis as a renewable
natural resource
Nutritional use
Cannabis seed is a complete source of protein and has an optimal ratio of Omega 3 and Omega 6 essential fatty acids. It can be consumed by children and adults without any psychoactive effect. It is one of the healthiest seeds that humans can eat.
Medicinal use
It is documented that in China, India and Egypt for thousands of years they have been treating illnesses with cannabis. Today science explains its mechanism of action through the Endocannabinoid System, which is a complex biological system present in humans and all mammals, responsible for regulating different physiological functions such as appetite, sleep, memory, inflammation and pain, among others.
Adult use (recreational/creative)
This is the most popular use and in this case a state of well-being, relaxation, stimulation of creativity or mental exploration is sought. The list of artists who have used cannabis for this purpose is too long. There are also scientists who have experimented and defended its use, such as Carl Sagan, who in a text described the prohibition as scandalous and described the plant as a drug that helps to produce serenity, introspection and sensitivity. It is important to highlight that the minimum recommended age for this use is 21 years old, since it is considered that at that age the nervous system has reached an advanced level of development.
Industrial and/or artisanal use
Many cultures have manufactured with hemp fiber, ropes, clothes, paper, etcetera. Even Columbus sailed to America with hemp sails and ropes. Apart from these ancient uses, construction materials, biofuels, bioplastics, cosmetics, among other biodegradable products are currently being produced, which are an excellent alternative to polluting petroleum-derived products.
Spiritual and/or ritual use
Cannabis has a long history of ceremonial and ritual use. Its presence in tombs, texts and millenary temples confirms the sacred character it had and still has for different cultures around the world.
